Power BI

Do you like to see the data that you work with displayed in graphical format? If you do, this application is for you. Like an Excel Spreadsheet can contain graphical visualisation in charting and other options. Power BI is like using Pivot Graphs at its most basic but has additional visualisation options and ways of representing your data.

If you know how to use Power Query and create data measures – then you will find Power BI easy to use.

You can also use Power BI to ask a question of your data, and it will create a sentence for you with a dynamic figure which will update on refresh.

Scenarios of how Power BI has improved reporting in a Company.

  • Company A has a Senior Management Team who all want to view KPI of the organisation on a weekly basis. The reporting was traditionally done in Excel as their database does not provide any reporting or insight tools other than exporting to Excel.

The Company now use dashboards to show the KPI data both week on week, and month on month.  The reports are now complete and only have to be refreshed each week to see the most up to date reporting.

Further reporting dashboards have now been completed.

  • Company B have approx 500 employees. They report on data which has been held in different databases and also in many different spreadsheets and want to rationise their reporting.

They have set up a series of standard reports for each department in the organisation for key accounting analysis, plus several reports which have enabled to organisation to lead in their field.

Power BI Desktop is a free application that you can install on your computer to analyse any data that you have access to, and even combine different data sources into one.  However you will need to purchase a licence if you want to share your Power BI report with others.

We offer services in Power BI Training, 1:1 Coaching and also creating your Power BI Dashboards for you and teaching your users how to update and edit them. Alternatively for SME you can Outsource your Data Analyst Role to us to enable you to review your key data on a weekly/monthly basis without the expenses of having a Data Analyst.
