Tame Your Inbox: Make Outlook Work for You (Not the Other Way Round)

Table of Contents

If your Outlook Inbox feels more like a to‑do list, filing cabinet and stress trigger all rolled into one, you’re not alone. The good news? Microsoft 365 Outlook already has the tools to help you take control, you just need to use them properly.

Here’s how to make your inbox more manageable (without spending hours organising it).

1. Your Inbox should not be a storage area! Create a “workflow” to manage it

2. Use your Focused Inbox – so many people turn it off – but it reduces noise! Try IT!

3. For easy Automation – set up some key Rules.

4. Flags and Categories – They both will help you organise your inbox effectively

5. Lastly schedule email time – Dependant on your job role you may need to react to email more than others, but plan time in your day that you will deal with it and even (HORROR) close down Outlook when your not responding to emails.
